Tips for Easy Toilet Maintenance You Can Do Yourself

There are certain bathroom defects you just cannot handle. In those cases, it is best to call a specialist. At the same time, however, toilets in the workplace can suffer from a problem that you can easily handle yourself. How to manage the most common ones?

Leaking Toilet

A seemingly innocuous problem, but one that can ultimately cost you dearly. Even a minor overflow costs your business thousands of litres of water and money literally flushed down the drain. However, in most cases, managing this malfunction is not difficult at all.

Firstly, close the valve through which the water flows into the tank. Get rid of any water left in it by flushing and opening the top lid of the tank. Remove the float valve from the tank and wash it out thoroughly. In most cases, the leaking is caused by nothing more than dirt on the valve, which causes it to leak. If the valve is too dirty or covered with limescale, replace it with a new one.

Broken Handle

Another common problem is a misaligned flush handle on the toilet. As long as this is the only problem and the handle is not broken, it is in most cases a simple fix that you can handle without too much trouble.

The most common fault is the separation of the handle from the valve, which you can simply reconnect. Loosening of the handle from the toilet wall can also be a problem. In this case, it should be enough to take off the lid of the water tank and unscrew the handle from the inside – most often in a counterclockwise motion.

Clogged Toilet

Thirdly, there is another common problem, which in most cases also does not need any professional help. A rubber toilet bell or, in the case of a more intractable blockage, a so-called toilet auger, should be able to cope with most problems connected to clogged toilets.
