Is Your Business Senior Friendly? Check Out These 5 Tips
There are not that many hotels that target the older-born clientele. The services are mostly tailored to families with children, couples and businesspeople. However, older people today are more active, they like to return to places where they had a good time and there are also those who like to try new destinations. Should we focus more on these clients? And what should senior friendly hotels do?
Double Attention and Care
A personalised approach and a rich programme are two key approaches you should adopt. According to the experience of hotel directors and managers, the priority is peace of mind, balanced, varied and light meals and friendly and helpful service. Less salted and spicy foods and healthy alternatives to meals are also the way to go.
These guests like to take easy hikes, love the outdoors, and historic sites. In Slovakia, it happens more than once that guests bring mushrooms from a walk and clean and dry them in the evenings right at the hotel. They simply want to feel at home.
Another great tip is to provide a rental of Nordic walking poles. If guests decide to explore the surroundings of your hotel, it can be a nice benefit to have a pre-prepared lunch, which they can pick up at the reception or in the restaurant area of the hotel. Seniors, as we mentioned, like convenience. That’s why it’s a good idea to consider having a hotel car which can transport guests to various destinations.
Also do not forget about wheelchair accessibility. Wide enough entrances and storage areas for wheelchairs and walkers are desirable.
Older people are more sensitive to weather fluctuations, draughts, too much heat or cold. Therefore, individually controlled air conditioning or heating is a good choice in rooms for seniors, which they can activate if they feel uncomfortable.
Wellness and customised packages
After an active day, they also like to have an extra rest. For seniors, infrared saunas are great option, as they are not dangerous for the cardiovascular system – on the contrary, they help with musculoskeletal problems. Massages, soaks, wraps, relaxationand spa treatments are also a must. Hotel wellness should be equipped with staff with whom they can consult their health problems.
Seniors generally arrive in the off-season. This is because there is no holiday rush in the hotel premises at this time. Do not forget about this clientele – people who are very generous with compliments, but also very perceptive and critical of the quality of your service.
